Who We Are
The Open Ice Foundation is a Maine-based nonprofit committed to making youth hockey accessible to more families. We believe hockey is more than a sport—it’s a powerful teacher of teamwork, discipline, resilience, and leadership. Yet, the high costs of equipment, tuition, travel, and development programs often create barriers for families who want to keep their kids on the ice. That’s where we come in.
Our mission is to break down these financial obstacles and build a community-driven support system that gives young athletes the confidence, opportunity, and stability to pursue the game they love. What started as a simple idea has grown into a grassroots movement fueled by passion, personal experience, and a deep commitment to helping families across Maine.
What We Do
Financial Assistance
We help families manage hockey costs by offering support for tuition, team fees, equipment, clinics, tournaments, and development programs
Equipment Support
We collect and redistribute new and gently used gear, skates, helmets, pads, sticks, gloves, bags, and goalie gear, to families who need assistance.
Community Events
We host raffles, apparel sales, gear drives, business partnerships, and community-focused events. All proceeds support youth scholarships and gear assistance.
